Chinese Intellectual Property Office signed a Cooperation Agreement with INAPI

In an official visit to Santiago de Chile, the Chinese Intellectual Property Office - SIPO - signed a Cooperation Agreement with Chile’s National Institute of Industrial Property –INAPI. This Agreement is the first signed by SIPO and a Latin-American country and comprises several areas of interest for both Offices, stressing the excellent opportunities of collaboration toward common goals. 

On Thursday, February 23th, a delegation of the Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO), led by its Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Li Yuguang, visited the National Institute of Industrial Property of Chile(INAPI) with the purpose of exchanging valuable experiences in the field of IP and to start a program of cooperation between both agencies. To facilitate the achievement of these goals, INAPI and SIPO signed an Agreement that will lay the foundation for mutual cooperation activities on issues relating to the creation, use, promotion, protection and management of industrial property rights between the two countries. 

In this occasion, Maximiliano Santa Cruz, National Director of INAPI said, "this cooperation Agreement, which is the first signed by SIPO with a South American office, is a clear example of the excellent relations existing between both agencies." “In the past, Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations and the first country to sign an FTA with the People's Republic of China (in force since 2006), and now we are pleased to be the first Office in the Region to strengthen our bonds with SIPO through this kind of instruments” . 

"This activity resents the efforts of INAPI to integrate our country into the international IP landscape" said Santa Cruz.
