WIPO Conversation on IP and AI

10:12 AM

As it was announced here, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held the Second Session of the WIPO Conversation on IP and AI from 7 to 9 July 2020

The virtual meeting gathered WIPO’s member states and “other stakeholders to discuss the impact of AI on IP”.

According to WIPO “over 2,000 people from 130 countries …. followed the deliberations [and m]ore than 50 speakers from a diverse range of organizations spoke during the meeting”.

WIPO also released a searchable feature of the listing of interventions to the meeting, which allows sorting the submissions per organization type (e.g. corporations, individuals, WIPO Member States), country and issue (e.g. patents, copyright, deep fakes, designs, trade secrets, accountability).

Francis Gurry, WIPO Director General, stated that a further conversation might take place in November, “to deal with issues … such as artificial intelligence in the area of trademarks and branding”.
